Moorcroft Pottery - Staffordshire Gold L200/8 Lamp
L200/8 STAFFORDSHIRE GOLD
In 2009, in a town near Lichfield, the now world famous Staffordshire Hoard was discovered by a solitary man with a metal detector. Comprised mainly of swords, hilts and helmets, along with a number of Christian crosses, the treasure dated from between 675 and 725AD, a time when pre-English kingdoms were fighting for supremacy. One of the most intriguing objects found in the Staffordshire hoard was a small strip of gold inscribed with a war-like quotation from the Bible. Its Latin inscription, taken from the Old Testament, translates as: "Rise up, O Lord, and may thy enemies be dispersed and those who hate thee be driven from thy face."
This impressive legacy of Anglo-Saxon craftmanship was the inspiration behind Moorcroft Designer Alicia Amison's glorious Staffordshire Gold collection. The combination of the Staffordshire Gold's striking rich regal colours are a treasure worth only of a king.
